Born and raised in Hopkinsville, KY, Poundz, experienced some hard times where he was a foster child until the age of 19. Knowing only of his biological mother, but nothing of his father, Poundz came from what some may consider a “broken home.” As a result, at an early age, Poundz turned to the streets for a source of income, which he discusses in his lyrics.

Rapping since the 7th grade, Poundz notes the Notorious B.I.G. a.k.a. Biggie Smalls, and The Nappy Roots, who are also from Kentucky, are his biggest influences. He states that Biggie is his biggest influence due to his creative swag and ability to make one feel like they know him without ever laying eyes on him. As for The Nappy Roots, Poundz credits their ability to overcome the odds getting their music out to the world. However, still being able to achieve platinum status making their critics respect them and their style as the reason he is influenced by them; not to mention, Poundz knows some of them on a personal level. With his distinct sound and emotional type of flow, Poundz will be the next artist to put Kentucky on the map and carry the state to a status that has yet to be achieved.

Over the years, Poundz has performed in an array of events throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Most notably, Poundz performed at the Inn Towne Café where he was approached by an A&R Executive from RCA Records, which led to him opening up for the Ying Yang Twins at the Ritz Night Club in Cincinnati, OH. Poundz’s debut album entitled “Heavy Weight” will be released on Ear Hustle Music Group in 2009. Under the management of Lav Life Entertainment, and working with Kenny “The Wiz” Washington, amongst other artists and producers, Poundz is gearing up to take the world by storm. Believing it is a blessing just to be here after all that he has been through; Poundz states, “Failure is my biggest fear as well as my biggest motivation!”
